Beginner Youth Small Group Mini-Course

Good news! We are getting started again!

This is our most popular offering.  We are now enrolling students approximately Grades 3-6 for Beginner lessons in a small cohort of 2-8 students.  This makes the sessions cost-effective, plus students get the opportunity to play games against students of equal level.

This class is aimed for the complete beginner.  We talk about the history of chess, learn the pieces and their movements, learn basic opening and closing moves, and learn basic overall strategy.  Time permitting, introduction to chess notation and tournament play will also take place.  Learnings occur through fun activities and different variations of chess games and exercises.

There will be 4 sessions in June 2025 on various days in the 6:30PM-8:00PM time slots.

The lessons will take place in the home of one of our instructors in the McCandless or Franklin Park area.  All adult instructors have Act 33/34 (Child Abuse and Criminal Record) clearances, FBI Fingerprint Criminal History clearance, and Mandated Reporter training.
